Austin and Round Rock: a younger, professional community, with new mosques and Islamic centers opening as the city grows.
San Antonio: a smaller but growing community, especially in the northwest of the city.
Elsewhere in Texas: smaller communities in cities such as El Paso and Lubbock, often centered on a university or a single mosque.

Nikah and a Legal Marriage in Texas
A nikah is a religious contract. For a legal marriage in Texas you also need a license from a county clerk, and both of you apply together. Texas has a 72-hour wait between getting the license and the ceremony, which a judge can waive, or which is waived if you complete a state-approved premarital education course. That course also lowers the license fee, and its certificate is accepted at county clerks' offices.
The license is valid for 90 days and can be used in any Texas county. Texas does not require witnesses for a licensed ceremony with an authorized officiant, although your nikah will need its own witnesses. Ask your imam whether he can officiate legally in Texas, and agree the mahr in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Texas cities have the biggest Muslim communities?
Houston has the largest community in the state, followed by the Dallas–Fort Worth area, which includes Irving, Richardson, Plano and Frisco. Austin and San Antonio are growing quickly.
Can I search across Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio?
Yes. Many members are open to the wider state. Say where you live and how far you are willing to travel or move, because the big cities are hours apart by car.
How soon can we marry after getting the license in Texas?
After 72 hours, unless a judge waives the wait or you complete a state-approved premarital education course, which also waives it. The license is valid for 90 days.
Does the Texas premarital course count as Islamic premarital counseling?
No. It is a separate, state-approved course that can lower your license fee and waive the waiting period. Ask your imam about Islamic counseling too.
Can I get the license in one county and marry in another?
Yes. A Texas marriage license works in any Texas county, so you can apply near home and marry elsewhere in the state.
I just moved to Texas for work. How do I meet families?
Start with your local mosque or Islamic center, tell trusted community members you are open to introductions, and use a matrimony site alongside them. Keep your family involved, even from a distance.
