Yes, a Muslim man and woman can meet before nikah, but within clear Islamic boundaries, not freely or privately. Islam permits a man to see and speak with a woman he is seriously considering for marriage. This is actually encouraged so both parties can make an informed decision rather than marrying a complete stranger. The condition is that meetings must be purposeful, chaperoned, and free from khalwat, meaning a man and woman must never be completely alone together without a mahram present. Casual dating, repeated private meetings, and any form of physical contact before nikah remain impermissible regardless of marriage intention. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged a man to look at the woman he intends to marry, as it creates stronger compatibility and reduces the chance of regret after nikah. Purposeful, respectful, and supervised meetings are permissible. Anything beyond that crosses the boundary Islam has set.
